Master’s Degree Started

Sociology, the scientific study of human relation or  group life emerged as a separate discipline within the social science domain in Europe during the first half of the 19th century. It is the fact that the industrial revolution and political revolution in Europe and their offshoots- the different kinds of social problems-created circumstances for the formation of new thinking ground to solve the newly emerged social problems. Its academic realization became possible in Nepal only in the latter part of the 20th century and development of the Nepalese chapter has been experienced to a greater extent.

Anthropology, the aspects of human life and culture, on the other hand, examines such topics as how people live, what they think, what they produce, and how they interact with environment. Its emergence and development dates back to 400 B.C. and in Nepal, research based anthropological study started only after 1950s when Nepal was opened to the outside world. Teaching in M.A. anthropology along with the sociology department began in the early years of 1980s. Poverty and conflict ridden countries like Nepal are richly cultivated land for sociological/ Anthropological study, for the mitigation or solution of the social problems at different intensity. An endeavor made by sociologists/Anthropologists, researchers, and social scientists will be supported by our contribution in the very field in the days to come.
