Social work in Nepal is not new invention. It can be traced back through many forms of voluntary work by religious and cultural institutions. Social work is a practice-based profession and an academic discipline that promotes social change and development, social cohesion, and the empowerment and liberation of people. Principles of social justice, human rights, collective responsibility and respect for diversities are central to social work.  Underpinned by theories of social work, social sciences, humanities and indigenous knowledge, social work engages people and structures to address life challenges and enhance wellbeing.

 

Field Work

Field work is an essential part of social work program. The students are expected to undergo minimum of 12hrs per week practical field work. The students are evaluated on the basis of their attendance, application of professional skills in the field and reflections of the faculty/field work supervisors, both from the institutes and agency. Besides this, this course intends to furnish the students with Report Writing, Individual Conference, Group Conference, Neighborhood Camp, Rural Camp, Urban Camp, and Block Placement and so on.

 

Entry Requirement

Candidates applying for admission program must have successfully completed the PCL in Management, Science, Humanities or any equivalent course from any board or university recognized by Tribhuvan University.


Examination and Assessment

The final examination for BSW will be conducted by the office of the Controller of Examination, Tribhuvan University

 

Job Prospects

There are many areas in which BSW Graduates get employment. They get job opportunities in government and non-government sector, education sector, social sector (NGOS, INGOS), Media sector.

They can work in different designations like;

  • Government Organization I/NGOs
  • Bank, Commercial Institutions, Corporate Sectors
  • Academic Institutions
  • Media Sectors, TV, Radio and News Agencies
  • Engineering Consultancies
  • Research Institutions and consultancies

For the students who wish and pursue their higher studies abroad they will be eligible to get scholarships available in the reputed Universities across the world.
